Joyce on Target for NSW Repeat

Wednesday, 4 August 2004

Defending champion Martin Joyce has opened up a five shot lead after two rounds of the Trainee Championships at Horizons Golf Resort. Joyce shot a one over par 73 in the extra testing conditions.

Weather conditions could only be described as miserable as the trainees battled their way round the tough Horizons layout. Winds in excess of 50 kilometres an hour, a sudden cold front and sprinklings of rain made posting a score near impossible.

Defending champion Martin Joyce managed the conditions well shooting a one over par 73. Joyce has opened up a five stroke lead after two rounds and looks in good stead to defend his title.

The round of the day came from Murrumbidgee’s Jake Nagle who shot an even par 72. Nagle made the turn at 2 under before dropping two on the way home. Nagle’s even par round elevated him into a tie for second with a 150 total.

Maitland Trainee Vicki Tutt is holding her own against the boys with rounds of 74 and 76 putting her level with Nagle and in the last group of the day for round three.

With winds expected to ease for rounds three and four scores should improve. The cut was made at 165, the highest it has been for some time.
