Media releases Horizons Apprentice Awarded Best in State Monday, 2 August 2004 Horizons Golf Resort was announced winner of the 2004 Hotel Motel Accommodation Association (HMAA) Industry Awards for Excellence held on 31 July 2004 in the category of Best Trainee/Apprentice of the Year. 2003 fourth year apprentice chef Gerard Allan was acknowledged as the State’s best apprentice of the year. Horizons’ Head Chef, Matt Lovell accepted the award on behalf of Gerard who is currently undertaking a Peter Howard Scholarship which gives him the opportunity of working in one of London’s finest restaurants. The HMAA Awards focus on recognising accommodation establishments that excel in delivering the guest experience in their particular niche market and the achievements and talents of individuals who deliver these experiences. The above prestigious award adds to Allan’s numerous awards as recognition of excellence in his industry. He has previously been awarded 2003 Hunter Apprentice Chef of the Year for Commercial Western Cuisine and Gold in the 2003 Restaurant & Catering Hunter Apprentice Cookery Competition.
