Media releases Byrnes Makes Confident Start in 2004 LPGA Tour Final Qualifier Wednesday, 22 October 2003 Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes has fired a three under par 69 in the first round of the final qualifying stage for the 2004 LPGA Tour being held at the LPGA International Legends Course, Daytona, Florida where there is a field of 135 players competing for approximately 28 exempt cards for the 2004 LPGA Tour. A further 35 players will, in ranked order, receive non-exempt status for 2004 where they will make it into a limited number of events. The final field of 135 for the Final Qualifying is made up of the 30 players from each of the two sectional qualifiers along with current LPGA Tour members who have lost fully exempt status or are attempting to improve their status for 2004, along with those players ranked 6-10th on the Futures Tour order of merit in 2003. Byrnes said “My preparation has been solid and throughout the week I practiced with Ian Baker-Finch and played a round with Shani Waugh and I was feeling really good. I fired 7 birdies, 7 pars and 4 bogies and I was very happy with my game. I went into the game with confidence and the hard work with my coach has paid off. I am looking to continue this form going into round two”. |
