Media releases Byrnes Progresses to Final Qualifying Stage for 2004 LPGA Tour Monday, 22 September 2003 Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes shot rounds of 70, 75, 72, 77 to finish in tied 20th position in the second sectional for the 2004 LPGA qualifying being played at Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, California to progress to the final stage of qualifying for the 2004 LPGA Tour. In round three Byrnes shot an even par 72 to be in equal 5th position with 4 birdies, 10 pars and 3 bogies. Byrnes headed out in the second last group at 8.50am on the final day to complete the round with a 5 over par 77 to finish with a total score of 294 and in tied 20th position. Byrnes said “After a nervous start in the third round I struck the ball very well from the 3rd hole and holed some great birdie putts as well. In the final round I had a tough front nine turning in 41 (5 over) even after hitting seven of these greens in regulation. On the back nine I made 2 birdies and 2 bogies to complete my round with a 77. There were some tough pin positions out there today which did make scoring quite tough and it was the hottest day for the week (108 degrees)”. Byrnes will play in the final qualifying tournament to be held on 21-24 October at the LPGA International, Legends Course, Daytona Beach, Florida where there will be a field of 136 players competing for approximately 23 fully exempt cards for the 2004 LPGA Tour. The next 35 players will, in ranked order, receive non-exempt status for 2004 where they will make it into a limited number of events. The final field of 136 for the Final Qualifying is made up of the 30 players from each of the two sectional qualifiers along with current LPGA Tour members who have lost fully exempt status or are attempting to improve their status for 2004, along with those players ranked 6-10th on the Futures Tour order of merit in 2003. |
