Byrnes Makes Cut for 1st Sectional in U.S. LPGA Qualifying School

Friday, 29 August 2003

Horizons Golf Resort’s Touring Professional, Cherie Byrnes had rounds of 69 and 78 to make the cut to progress to the final rounds of the 1st sectional for the 2004 LPGA Qualifying being played at The Plantation Golf and Country Club at Venice, Florida.

The top 70 players and ties from the total field of 188 were eligible to progress to the final rounds. On day one Byrnes had play abandoned after the 13th hole when electrical storms hit Florida and resumed play the next morning to fire a confident 69. On day three Byrnes completed play with a round of 76.

The top 30 players at each sectional qualifier advance to the final qualifying tournament to be held on 21-24 October at the LPGA International, Legends Course, Daytona Beach, Florida.

Byrnes said “I’m looking to repeat my day one results tomorrow to get through here which is possible on this course. The weather is very hot and I knew the people who could manage their bodies the best this week in these conditions would certainly come out on top at the end of the week”.
